Summary of the weekly announcements at the Islamic Center of Raleigh

• Alhamdulillah we are nearing the blessed month of Ramadan. On Thursday, August 20th (Shaban 29th), the moon will set before the sun sets in Makkah and much of the eastern world. Therefore, the moon will not be visible in those areas. In North America, the new crescent moon will set after the sun sets, providing a very slight possibility for visibility primarily in the south and west. We will carefully monitor for crescent moon sightings and make an official announcement on the IAR website by 11:30pm ET on Thursday, August 20th inshallah. If we cannot confirm the new crescent moon sighting, then we will complete 30 days of the month of Shabaan and the first of Ramadan will be on Saturday August 22nd.
• IAR Hajj Committee will hold an information session on 2009 Hajj arrangements from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm on August 15, 2009 in Room 240 at IAR. All interested and encourged to attend.
• The social and welfare committee at the IAR is launching its annual school supplies drive for the coming school year. Many families in this community rely on the IAR to provide their children with school supplies Please consider donating whatever you can to help these families in need. Collection bins and a sample list of what is needed will be found in different locations through the IAR.

Educational Activities

Education committee of IAR has arranged the following classes for members of the community

• Tajweed class for Sisters every Sunday from 7:30 pm to Maghrib by Imam Sameh.
• Essentials of Islam class is held on 4th Sunday of the month after Dhuhr on Sundays to learn the basic principles of Islam and to provide a social network for new muslims. The next class will be on July 26.
• Quranic Arabic Level 1 and Level 2 classes taught by Imam Sameh Asal on Tuesday and Thursday nights begin one hour before Maghrib and between Maghrib and Isha prayers respectively.
• Summer Qur'an Hifz program.
• Quran classes for sisters every Saturday and Sunday between 12 noon - 1 pm.
• Imam Baianonie's class for sisters begin one hour before Maghrib every Friday.
